Jarell Perry On My Own Cover

Lyrics & production carry this mixtape, which isn’t actually a mixtape but a free album.  The writing is phenomenal and after doing a bit of research on Perry it came as no surprise to discover that he is signed to a major label as a songwriter.  His writing skills are refreshing and sound as fluid as ink flowing from a mont blanc on vintage vellum.

However, his vocals aren’t the strongest. A few tracks are almost painful to listen to. Not because he is a terrible singer, but because you want to love the song so much but his voice leaves the track falling just shy of the mark. He can sing. That ability is not in question. A few intense vocal sessions stretching his range would do his project and any future projects wonders.

Don’t let this deter you from checking out the album. It is still a very good project and very much so worth the download. If you are a fan of R&B and do not have this in your collection, you are definitely missing out.

ALBUM 7.5/10
